How to Get Permanent Residency in Mauritius After Your Investor Permit

Permanent residency Mauritius is the long-term goal for many investors who begin their journey with an Investor Occupation Permit. If you are wondering how to get permanent residency in Mauritius, the answer lies in understanding the 2026 requirements — and they are significantly different from what most online guides still tell you.

This guide explains the pathway step by step: the extended holding period, the turnover thresholds you must meet, the documents you need, and the strict deadline that catches many applicants off guard.

What Is Permanent Residence in Mauritius?

A Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) allows you to live in Mauritius for 20 years, without the need to renew an Occupation Permit every decade. It is the most durable status Mauritius offers to non-citizens who are not seeking citizenship.

Unlike the Investor Occupation Permit, which is tied to your business turnover and is reviewed periodically, the PRP offers greater stability. Once granted, it is valid for 20 years and can be renewed thereafter.

Permanent residence does not grant citizenship or a Mauritian passport. Naturalisation is a separate, discretionary process, and no investment shortens it

Permanent Residence Mauritius-What Has Changed in 2026?

The pathway from Investor Occupation Permit to permanent residence was significantly tightened by the Finance Act 2025. Two changes matter most.

The holding period increased from 3 years to 5 years.
Previously, investors could apply for permanent residence after holding an Occupation Permit for 3 years. Under the current framework, you must hold the permit for 5 years before applying.

The turnover thresholds increased.
To qualify, an investor must now demonstrate either:

  • MUR 15 million in annual turnover for 5 consecutive years, or

  • MUR 75 million in aggregate turnover over the 5-year period.

These changes mean permanent residence in Mauritius is no longer a fast-track outcome. It is a reward for sustained business performance

Turnover Requirements for Permanent Residence

Here are the specific figures you need to meet.

RequirementThreshold
Annual turnoverMUR 15 million per year for 5 consecutive years
Aggregate turnoverMUR 75 million over 5 years

These are minimum thresholds. Meeting them does not guarantee approval — the authorities will also assess the overall viability and sustainability of the business.

Important distinction: These figures are separate from the turnover requirements for renewing your Investor Occupation Permit. Under the 2026 framework, the Investor Occupation Permit requires turnover of at least MUR 5 million from Year 3, rising to MUR 8 million from Year 5 for renewal.

This means your business must grow progressively: meet the renewal thresholds at Year 3 and Year 5, then demonstrate the higher permanent residence thresholds by the time you apply.

The Full Pathway: From Investor Permit to PR

Here is how the journey typically unfolds.

Stage 1: Investor Occupation Permit (Year 0)
You apply for and receive your Investor Occupation Permit, having met the minimum investment threshold (USD 100,000 for the standard route). The permit is issued for 10 years.

Stage 2: First Renewal Milestone (Year 3)
Your business must demonstrate annual turnover of at least MUR 5 million to support renewal. This is a checkpoint for assessing whether your business is on track.

Stage 3: Second Renewal Milestone (Year 5)
Your business must demonstrate annual turnover of at least MUR 8 million. By this point, you have held the permit for 5 years — the minimum period required before applying for permanent residence.

Stage 4: Application for Permanent Residence (Year 5+)
You apply for permanent residence, demonstrating either MUR 15 million annual turnover for 5 consecutive years, or MUR 75 million aggregate turnover over 5 years.

Stage 5: Permanent Residence Granted
Once approved, you receive a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit.

thresholds.

The 6-Month Deadline You Must Not Miss

One critical detail that catches many applicants off guard: your application must be submitted within 6 months of satisfying the qualifying criteria.

If you miss this window, the clock restarts, and you may need to demonstrate another qualifying period before you can apply.

This is a strict administrative requirement, and failing to meet it can delay your permanent residence by years. Plan your application timeline carefully and submit as soon as you meet the threshold.

Residency in Mauritius Document Checklist

The application requires a comprehensive set of documents. The key items include:

  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

  • Four recent passport-sized photographs (not older than 3 months)

  • Original Occupation Permit (returned after verification)

  • Certificate of Income/Turnover from the Mauritius Revenue Authority covering the last 5 years
