Key 2026 criteria
These figures reflect the official guidelines supplied to DNB. Every application remains subject to documentary verification and approval by the competent authorities.
Investor Occupation Permit
- USD 100,000 initial investment; or qualifying innovative start-up route
- Funds transferred from abroad into the Mauritius company account within 60 days of permit issuance
- Minimum turnover of MUR 5 million from the third year
- Renewal: MUR 8 million annual turnover from the fifth year
- Maximum duration: 10 years, renewable
Professional Occupation Permit
- Monthly basic salary of at least MUR 50,000 across all sectors
- Application submitted by the Mauritius employer through NELS
- Duration: employment contract or 10 years, whichever is shorter
- Short-term OP: up to 9 months, with one extension of up to 3 months
- A fresh application is required when changing employer
Self-Employed Occupation Permit
- USD 50,000 initial investment
- Services sector only
- At least three letters of intent, including two from potential Mauritius clients
- Minimum business income of MUR 2 million from the third year
- Renewal: MUR 3 million annually from the fifth year
Retired Non-Citizen Residence Permit
- Applicant aged 50 years or above
- Evidence of at least USD 24,000 in available funds
- Initial transfer of USD 2,000 within 60 days
- Then USD 24,000 annually or USD 2,000 monthly
- Maximum duration: 10 years, renewable
Young Professional Occupation Permit
- Eligible degree or equivalent professional certification completed at a recognised Mauritius institution
- Monthly basic salary of at least MUR 25,000
- Application normally submitted within six months of publication of results
- Maximum duration: three years, based on the employment contract
- Application submitted by the employer

DNB professional-service fees are quoted separately according to the pathway and complexity of the application.
After submission and approval
Changes, renewals and appeals
Changing employment
A Professional changing employer must submit a fresh application meeting the applicable criteria. Cancellation and no-objection documents may be required.
Renewal
Renewal should be submitted on NELS at least one month before expiry. A renewal Approval in Principle is valid for 30 days.
Appeal
A single appeal may be submitted through NELS within 30 days of the turndown notification. The applicant must maintain valid immigration status.
Changing category
A fresh application is required, supported by cancellation documents and any required employer no-objection or non-competition undertaking.
YPOP transition
A YPOP holder may move to the Professional OP route subject to the conditions in the official guidelines. YPOP itself cannot be transferred to another employer.
Cancellation
EDB must be informed promptly. Original permit and UID documents must be returned to the Passport and Immigration Office where required.
